StatEpi Coordinating Center Department of Epidemiology -- -- -- -- Who We Are: Statepi is a group of professionals ( -- Faculty -- with statistical, epidemiological and computing expertise at the Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health whose primary mission is to provide leadership in complex study design, research coordination, data management and analytical methods for cohort studies including clinical trials. Current Projects include:           Highlights of MACS/WIHS Protocol and Cohorts -- -- The Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS) is an ongoing multicenter, prospective study of the natural history of HIV-1 infection in homosexual men conducted since 1984. -- The Women's Interagency HIV Study (WIHS) is an ongoing multicenter, prospective study which was established in 1993 to carry out comprehensive investigations of the impact of HIV infection in women. The North American AIDS Cohort Collaboration on Research and Design (NA-ACCORD) is part of the International Epidemiological Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) project. The NA-ACCORD was established in 2006 as a regional collaboration of existing single-site and multi-site cohorts and is designed to be widely representative of HIV care in the United States and Canada. This Cohort Study of Chronic Kidney Disease in children is an ongoing multicenter, prospective study established in 2003 to determine the risk factors for decline in renal function; the incidence of, and risk factors for, impaired neurocognitive development and function; the prevalence of risk factors for cardiovascular disease; and long-term effects of growth failure and its treatment. The Investigating HIV-Associated Lung Disease (INHALD) study was funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in September of 2013 to investigate and define cellular and molecular events underlying the pathogenesis of HIV-associated lung diseases (e.g., COPD and pulmonary hypertension). Liver Cancer, HBV and Aflatoxin Collaborations with John Groopman ( Biomarkers ) and Thomas Kensler ( Oltipraz ), from Environmental Health Sciences Department, as the epidemiology/biostatistics core of several projects on liver cancer. These studies, which started in 1993, seek to enhance the development, validation and application of molecular biomarkers to the prevention of environmental carcinogenesis in high-risk populations. This study, started in 1993, is composed of 3 projects on molecular biomarkers for environmental carcinogens. -- Postmarketing Study of Tramadol The biostatistics/epidemiology center of the Post-marketing Surveillance Program to assess potential abuse of the analgesic Tramadol, since its introduction in 1995. Postmarketing Study of Opioid-Based Pain Medications Epidemiology/Biostatistics Center of the Analysis of Data from RADARS (Research of Abuse Diversion and Addiction Related Surveillance) whose primary aim is to describe the patterns of abuse of a class of opioid-based pain medicines. -- Course Materials: Adv.
